Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Vapour Blasting

What is vapour blasting?

Vapour blasting (also called wet blasting or aqua blasting) uses a pressurised mix of water and fine abrasive media to clean and restore metal surfaces. The water cushions the abrasive as it contacts the part, producing a smooth, bright satin finish without damaging the underlying material. It's the gold standard for aluminium cleaning.

How is vapour blasting different from sandblasting?

Dry sandblasting uses abrasive under air pressure without water. It's aggressive and can cause pitting, surface stress or warping on soft metals like aluminium. Vapour blasting incorporates water to cushion the media — it's far gentler, produces a finer finish, and is safe for precision components. It also dramatically reduces airborne dust.

What materials can you vapour blast?

We work safely with aluminium, bronze, magnesium, titanium, brass and copper. These are common in classic motorcycle and automotive restoration work. We can also handle steel and cast iron. If you're unsure whether your part is suitable, send us a photo and we'll advise.

What types of parts do you handle?

We handle engine cases, carburettors, cylinder heads, gearboxes, manifolds, brake calipers, cam covers, timing cases, alternator housings, marine components, and more. Maximum part size is 1200mm. If it fits in the cabinet, we can blast it.

Do I need to prepare my parts before sending?

Yes — please remove bearings, seals and valves before sending. These should not go through the vapour blasting process. If your parts are heavily painted or contaminated, let us know — we offer paint stripping prep as an add-on service.

How much does it cost?

Pricing is based on size and time. Small parts like carburettors start from £25–50. Medium parts like cylinder heads are typically £50–100. Large items like engine cases and gearboxes range from £80–200+. The full range is £5–£400 depending on the job. Send us a photo for an exact quote — we don't do vague estimates.

How long does it take?

Most jobs are turned around in 1–4 days. We don't sit on work. If you have a specific deadline, let us know when you enquire.

Can you protect the parts after blasting?

Yes. We offer ACF-50 anti-corrosion treatment as an add-on. Freshly blasted metal is highly active and can start to oxidise quickly — ACF-50 protects the surface during storage or while you're reassembling. Recommended for anything that won't go straight back together.

Do you accept shipped parts?

Yes. Many of our customers are UK-wide. Box your parts securely and ship them to Unit 10, Lincoln Enterprise Park, LN5 9FP. We'll confirm receipt and your turnaround time. Finished parts are returned via courier.

How do I get a quote?

Send a photo of your parts via our contact form or WhatsApp Charlie directly on 07366 325 681. We'll come back to you with a firm price, usually same day.

What is vapour blasting?

Vapour blasting, also known as wet or aqua blasting, is a gentle cleaning process that uses a high-pressure mix of water, abrasive media, and air to remove rust, grime, paint, and contaminants from metal surfaces. It provides a smooth, durable finish without damaging the underlying material.

How long does the vapour blasting process take?

Turnaround time varies by project size and complexity, but most jobs are completed within 2-5 business days. We offer express options for urgent needs—contact us for a quote.

Can I visit your facility or get a consultation?

We're based in Lincolnshire and welcome visits by appointment. Schedule a free consultation to discuss your project, or send photos via email for advice.

How does vapour blasting differ from traditional sandblasting?

Unlike dry sandblasting, which can be abrasive and cause pitting or warping, vapour blasting incorporates water to cushion the media, making it non-damaging and ideal for delicate components. It also reduces dust and produces a finer, more uniform finish.

What types of components can you vapour blast?

We handle a wide range, including automotive parts like engine blocks and alloy wheels, industrial machinery components such as gears and pumps, marine items like boat engines and propellers, and personal restoration projects like motorcycle frames or antiques.

Is vapour blasting suitable for marine applications?

Yes, it's excellent for marine restorers and maintenance. It effectively removes saltwater corrosion, barnacles, and algae from boat fittings, hardware, and engines without compromising the material's integrity.

Is vapour blasting environmentally friendly?

Absolutely—our water-based method minimizes dust and uses recyclable abrasives, reducing environmental impact compared to chemical cleaners or dry blasting.
